Also reg. NSSHA, RHBAA, and SSHBEA - aka BIRDS SANDY SUN - son of Shadow's Black Bird and Dusty Sally.

Gale Smith purchased Paint the Town as a 3 yr. old. He was foaled in 1979.  He was bred by a Mr. Robertson of Camden, TN. The horse was running out in a back pasture and had never seen a woman, nor been handled much or broke to ride. Mr. Robertson loaded him on the trailer and when Gale got home, she could not handle him. It took her a long time to get him broke and she was on the ground a lot. She took him to a Spotted Show in Murfreesboro, to show at halter....the judge didn't tie him and told her the horse was too loose and pacey. She felt like people would want a full-sized horse with a true walk, not the ponies the Spotted Saddle horse people were breeding. She said her horse, who is still alive and living in a 20 acre pasture with an old girlfriend, traces back to Nell Overstreet. She said that unless a spotted horse goes back to Nell Overstreet, that horse is not a Walking Horse. It has always been her intention to breed for quality, not for color. Always breed up, never sideways and never down to improve the breed. Always breed for quality. Gale Smith is currently breeding manager at Joe Martin Stables, in Shelbyville, TN.

In the 80's Paint The Town stood at stud at Beech Stables and Sand Creek. He sired 162 foals, including Paints Rooster, Paint's Moon Man, Town's Two Tone, and The Town Painter.

The beauty, grace and elegance of the Paint The Town blood is still showing strong, five and six generations later, in progeny like Dillon Paints The Town
